【摘要】:Theuseofthistestmethodcansignificantlyreducetheriskofsuddencatastrophicfailureofthreadedarticlesandfasteners,belowtheirdesignstrength,duetohydrogenembrittlement.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationof,onastatisticalbasis,theprobabilityoftheexistenceofhydrogenembrittlementordegradationin:1.1.1Abatchofbarrelelectroplated,autocatalyticplated,phosphated,orchemicallyprocessedthreadedarticlesorfastenersand1.1.2Abatchofrackplatedthreadedarticles,fasteners,orrod.1.2Industrialpracticeforthreadedarticles,fasteners,androdhasevolvedthreegraduatedlevelsoftestexposuretoensurereducedriskofhydrogenembrittlement(seeSection3).Theselevelshaveevolvedfromcommercialapplicationshavingvaryinglevelsofcriticality.Inessence,theyrepresenttheconfidencelevelthatisrequired.Theyalsorepresentthetimethatfinishedgoodsareheldbeforetheycanbeshippedandused.Thistimeequatestoadditionalcosttothemanufacturerthatmayofnecessitybeaddedtothecostofthefinishedgoods.1.3Thistestmethodisapplicabletothreadedarticles,fasteners,androdmadefromsteelwithx2265;1000MPa(withcorrespondinghardnessvaluesof300HV10kgf,303HB,or31HRc)orsurfacehardenedthreadedarticles,fasteners,orrod.1.4ThistestmethodshallbecarriedoutafterhydrogenembrittlementreliefheattreatmentinaccordancewiththerequirementsofGuideB850.Itmayalsobeusedforassessingdifferencesinprocessingsolutions,conditions,andtechniques.Thistestmethodhastwomainfunctions:first,whenusedwithastatisticalsamplingplanitcanbeusedforlotacceptanceorrejection,andsecond,itcanbeusedasacontroltesttodeterminetheeffectivenessofthevariousprocessingstepsincludingpre-andpost-bakingtreatmentstoreducethemobilehydrogeninthearticles,fasteners,orrod.WhilethistestmethodiscapableofindicatingthoseitemsthatareembrittledtotheextentdefinedinSection3,itdoesnotguaranteecompletefreedomfromembrittlement.1.5Thistestmethoddoesnotrelievetheprocessorfromimposingandmonitoringsuitableprocesscontrol.1.6ThistestmethodhasbeencoordinatedwithISO/DIS10587andistechnicallyequivalent.(Warning8212;Greatcareshouldbetakenwhenapplyingthistestmethod.Theheadsofembrittledarticles,fasteners,orrodmaysuddenlybreakoffandbecomeflyingprojectilescapableofcausingblindnessorotherseriousinjury.Thishazardcanoccuraslongas200hafterthetesthasstarted.Hence,shieldsorotherapparatusshouldbeprovidedtoavoidsuchinjury.)Note18212;TestMethodF1940canbeusedasaprocesscontrolandverificationtopreventhydrogenembrittlementinfastenerscoveredbythistestmethod.Note28212;Theuseofinhibitorsinacidpicklingbathsdoesnotnecessarilyguaranteeavoidanceofhydrogenembrittlement.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
